This heirloom American felling axe, weighing 4 pounds, has been expertly crafted by our skilled artisans. The timeless Dayton pattern, much favored by experienced woodsmen, is used for the full-sized felling axe. The forging of the axe head is followed by meticulous finishing, including rough grinding in a robotic work cell and sharpening by a skilled craftsman using fine abrasives, and finishing with leather stropping. We ensure that the axe is razor sharp, honed by hand by our craftsmen. All components of this axe are proudly MADE IN USA.

Forged from 5160 grade alloy steel, this axe boasts strength, toughness, durability, and excellent edge retention. The Council logo is proudly displayed on one side of the head, while the other side is marked USA. The head is designed to last a lifetime, guaranteed. Heat treated and quenched to create a hardened edge extending 1-1/2 inches up the bit, the axe is capable of maximum edge retention. The edge is tempered to Rc 52-56, ensuring it holds its edge without becoming brittle.

The 36 inch handle is made of grade A American hickory, embodying the heirloom quality of axes from the past. Carefully selected for grain orientation and density, the handle is mounted to the head in a traditional manner, using a softwood wedge and a round steel wedge for added security. The axe head is coated with oil to prevent rust and highlight its natural beauty, while the handle is protected with a coating of Linseed oil.

To protect both the tool and the user, a premium leather sheath is included, featuring a buckle for fastening and an embossed logo. This sheath is also MADE IN USA. The overall weight of the axe is 5.60 lbs, with a head weight of 4 lbs. The axe is made of 5160 American Steel, with a 32" American hickory handle.
